It always shocks me when I hear someone has never left their own state. Leaving the country I understand can be stressful especially if you don't speak the language. Maybe there's an assumption that going to X place is too expensive but you'd be surprised how much you can do on a budget with a well thought out plan. You'd be surprised how cheap flights can be.
Even here in the states there's so much to see. I love seeing how other states and countries are, its so important to add perspective to things, getting out of your local bubble helps.
